The Lion

Updated: Jul 23, 2022

O Lord, how great is your lovingkindness. I have nothing but brokenness and faith to offer, but each day you breathe life into my body and soul. Every breath in my lungs is a miracle in which you reveal your righteous sovereignty. Yet not only physical breath do you impart to me, but spiritual also. By grace through Christ, your spirit was predestined to walk with me in the valley and atop the summit for all my days. This spirit is not one of timidity, but of love, power, and strength. It is a lion that roars blinding light into the darkness, that shatters the chains of my sin within its jaws. This Lion is the one that tramples death beneath its feet, that rolls the stone away from my tomb. None rival him; none are worthy to oppose. O death! O sin! O shame! Where is your sting? It is not against me, for this Lion of Judah is my rock and strength! Yet, in his might, he still comes to me gentle and lowly. He comforts me in the fire of tribulation, my wonderful counselor. He weeps with me in my mourning, my friend that sits closer than a brother. He intercedes for me to the Father, my blameless savior. It is because of this Lion that I am alive, it is because of this Lion that I have received the gospel of truth and grace, and it is because of this Lion that I will proclaim boldly this gospel that has brought breath to my soul.
